Art director James Kuczynski has teamed up with illustrator Paul Tuller to create a series of posters that aims to raise awareness of homophobic stereotypes.
Titled ‘Guide to Gay Stereotypes’, the posters illustrate various stereotypes—such as ‘The Bear’, ‘The Drag Queen’, ‘The Twink’ and ‘The Butch’.
According to Tuller, he said that he was inspired to create the posters based on “Interest in how these labels have been reclaimed by the LGBTQ community as something light-hearted, erotic, comical or otherwise endearing”.
“Labels of any kind can be polarizing and exclusive, but at some point the community reclaimed these words as something more,” added Tuller. “I wanted to celebrate that.”
The posters are available online for purchase at US$18 each and a portion of the proceeds will go to the ‘Think B4 You Speak” campaign by GLSEN (Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network)—a campaign that “raises awareness of the negative use of homophobic words”.
