Forever Alone? World’s First One-Person Restaurant Opens

Many people are uncomfortable with the thought of dining alone in a restaurant. A new restaurant opening in Amsterdam aims to break this taboo.

Created by social designer Marina Van Goor and branding agency Vandejong, ‘Eenmaal’ is a restaurant that only has tables for one person.

Van Goor says that “‘Eenmaal’ is an exciting experiment for those who never go out dining alone, as well as an appealing opportunity for those who often eat alone at restaurants”.

She hopes that ‘Eenmaal’ will strip away the negative image associated with dining alone and make it more attractive for people to do so.

The name ‘Eenmaal’ was inspired by “its meaning in Dutch which is both ‘one time’ and ‘one meal’, giving the name a subtle twist”.

The pop-up restaurant will be open to the public for two days on the 28th and 29th June.
