A First Aid Kit That Can Be Used One Handed

Designer Gabriele Meldaikyte’s‘Home First Aid Kit’ is a well-thought-out redesign of the first aid kit that simplifies usage and includes step-by-step first aid instructions.

Meldaikyte believes that the design of normal first aid kits do not “address how they function in real life where they are often used by someone who has no medical training”.

The ‘Home First Aid Kit’ addresses common injuries that can be received in a domestic environment such as minor scratches, deep cuts and burns.

The redesigned kit “is divided by injuries and every injury is described in steps, guiding the casualty through the treatment process.

“Burns/scalds are marked in yellow color, minor cuts/scratches are in orange and bleeding/deep cuts are red”.

Meldaikyte’s kit has also been designed to be used with only one hand so that an injury to the other hand can be treated, even if you were alone.

Special tools have been included to enable one-handed usage. For example, a bandage applicator has been included, so that bandages can be “applied much faster and can be cut off with integrated blades (replacing scissors)”.
