‘+ Pool’, the brainchild of New York-based design studios Playlab and Family, is a project that aims to convert a part of New York City’s East River into a swimming pool.
The ‘+ Pool’ will act like a “giant strainer dropped into the river”, filtering out bacteria and contaminants, leaving clean and natural river water that meets city and state standards for swimming.
Measuring over 9,000 square feet in size, the plus-shaped pool will be able to clean up to half a million gallons of water a day, making a positive contribution to the river.
The team behind the project aims to open the pool by the summer of 2016, and is currently on Kickstarter to fund the building of a 35 by 35 feet ‘Float Lab’ this August for testing purposes.
