Beautiful Paintings Using Maps As Canvases

Inspired by the natural sciences and naturalist artists, Vancouver-based artist Paul Morstad paints birds and animals on an interesting canvas—old maps.

Morstad sees maps as an artificial, man-made construct to represent land, and uses them as a canvas to “reveal the ambivalence and struggle in the cohabitation of humans and the natural world”.
