Most of us are familiar with the image of strip clubs as dimly-lit, sleazy dens frequented by men who indulge their carnal desires in the form of lap dances from buxom ladies. Photographer Christopher Sturman has a series of photographs of New York City strip clubs that shows them in a different light, literally.
‘NYC Strip’ is an unvarnished look at these sordid establishments with the lights on, and the images are so vivid you can almost smell the desperation and despair.
While they host raucous debauchery by night, they give off a depressingly grubby and downtrodden feel in the harsh light of day.
