The elusive Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, are phenomena that are best seen in countries like Iceland, Sweden, Russia and Alaska. Many people consider weather conditions, seasons and specific viewing locations in their quests to find these spectacular curtains of light, but one lucky traveler got to experience it close-up—from his window seat on an airplane.
Paul Williams’ serendipitous encounter happened on a trans-Atlantic flight from London to New York. The surreal green halos of light appeared right outside his window, and he took haste in documenting it all on his Canon 6D camera equipped with a 24mm fixed F1.4 lens.
