London-based painter Andrew Salgado creates expressive portraits that convey raw emotion and deep sadness.
Salgado explores color and form in his work, using broad, quick brushstrokes and bold colors against solid backgrounds to produce beautiful abstract images of people. He prefers to focus on metaphors and suggestive meanings rather than literal representations to tell a story.
“Through my treatment of form and content, I ask the viewer to consider the technical aspects of my paintings, but also the metaphorical role that media assumes in my work, and finally the relationship of my paintings to a greater narrative and mythology,” says Salgado.
