If you grew up in the late 80s or early 90s, The Neverending Story might bring on a wave of nostalgia. Based on a German fantasy novel, the film’s iconic characters include Atreyu the boy warrior, The Childlike Empress, and Falkor the Luckdragon.
Video game artist Nicolas Francoeur illustrated a series of characters from the film, giving them a 21st century makeover. The Childlike Empress looks resplendent in a much more extravagant headpiece, and Falkor looks more sinister than cuddly.
The illustrations seem to portray the darker undertones of the story. What do you think?
