An upcoming documentary that is being produced by Microsoft’s Xbox Entertainment Studios has uncovered a tremendous stockpile of discarded Atari games in a landfill in the New Mexico desert, busting a rumor that has been spreading since 1983.
The rumor was that the notoriously infamous ‘E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial’ game created by Atari flopped so bad during the video game crash of 1983, that Atari decided to dump all its excess merchandise quickly by throwing it in a landfill.
The story was never confirmed and slowly forgotten, until now.
The upcoming documentary by Microsoft Xbox Entertainment Studios will look back on the changing landscape in the video game industry, and is part of a push by Microsoft to produce original video content for Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners.
