Toymaker Mattel has collaborated with Google to release a new version of its classic View-Master toy that is fitted with Google’s Cardboard VR Technology, allowing users to enjoy an immersive 360-degree viewing experience.

Unlike its original View-Master, first launched in 1939, the new View-Master brings users away from its flat images, taking them on virtual “field trips” to the streets of Paris, and providing detailed images of the solar system and the dinosaur world with its digital “experience reels”.

Instead of loading physical reels into the new View-Master, the device only works when a smartphone, installed with the accompanying app, is placed inside it, which also acts as its display.

What do you think of this modern update to your favorite toy stereoscope?

The new View-Master is scheduled to be launched in October 2015.
