‘Without permission, but with good intentions’, a Spain-based elderly Italian woman took it upon herself to help restore a valuable painting of Jesus.
However, the results were not as expected—she destroyed the valuable artwork.
The painting, according to Yahoo! News, was painted by 19th-century artist Elías García Martînez, and was reported to be deteriorating for some time.
“Once the budding artist realized she was in over her head, she confessed to local authorities,” Yahoo! wrote.
The lady in her 80s was a neighbour of the church the painting was located in.
According to Yahoo!, the artist’s granddaughter was going to donate to fix the painting—but the elderly lady tried her hand at fixing it up first.
A professional restorer is currently assessing the damage to see if the fresco can be saved.
