You might ride the subway everyday, and might know think you know how to do so—but chances are, you could be doing it wrong.
In a video entitled ‘How to ride the subway’ for NY Daily News, Daily News’ Meena Hart Duerson talks to NY1 Rail and Road reporter Jamie Shupak on what to do (and what not to do) when riding the subway—so you don’t annoy fellow riders around you, and become public enemy #1.
The duo goes on a journey underground for lessons on subway etiquette that range from: what to wear to maximize the speed of your commute and not be in a sweaty mess by the time you get to your destination, how you should be holding the pole, and what to eat and what NOT to eat.
According to Shupak, you need to get your cards ready, do a sound-check and go easy on the bass, leave the hygiene at home, and be polite and offer your seats to those who need it more than you do.
If you’re a girl, you should wear something well-ventilated and bring a pair of flats in your bag.
