IKEA Sells Trademark For 9 Billion Euros

IKEA, the family-owned Swedish furniture company, has sold its trademark to one of its subsidiary companies, Inter Ikea Systems, for 9 billion euros.

This is the first time the iconic brand has being given a book value.

The company was founded in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad, who reportedly once overtook Bill Gates as the world's richest man.

Despite the high price, IKEA is not the highest-valued brand from Sweden. It comes after Hennes & Mauritz (H&M)'s trademark, which is estimated at 15 billion euros.

Apple tops the list of the world's most valuable brands, followed by IBM and Google. Coca-Cola is 6th and IKEA is 89th.
