24K Gold Pills, Turn Poop Golden?

To make a statement about unnecessary excesses of the luxury industry, designer Ken Courtney and artist Tobias Wong produced a series of ridiculously extravagant products, such as this pair of 24K gold Nike shoes.

The collection includes these 24K, swallowable gold pills, which have appreciated greatly in value since they were first produced in 2005—costing a hefty US$425, it is uncertain if this amount would get you just one or three of these gold leaves-stuffed capsules.

According to the webstore where they are sold, they are “analogous to our culture’s obsession with luxury and consumption” and would “turn your innermost parts into chambers of wealth”

Although they sound like a joke, people must have been buying them because they are currently listed as “temporarily unavailable”—perhaps the rich people who bought them are hoping that they would turn their poop golden, just for fun?
