Marvel has shocked fans across the world by killing off Peter Parker in the latest and last issue of the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’.
In issue #700 of the comic series, Parker will get killed and the role of Spider-Man will be taken over by his archenemy, Otto Octavius—also known as ‘Doctor Octopus’.
The recently released #700 issue marks the end of popular 50-year-old series, however, Marvel will be replacing it with a new series called the ‘Superior Spider-Man’—in which ‘Doc Oct’ will step into the spidey suit.
“For all intents and purposes, he [Otto Octavius] was the adult Peter could have become, Spider-Man’s dark reflection”, Dan Slott, the issue’s writer, said in a statement, “So what if we flipped it? What if we gave him a second chance?”
“Peter’s final, heroic act was giving Doc all the memories and experiences that kept him on the right path. But is that enough? Can that overcome Ock’s true nature?”
The ‘Superior Spider-Man’ is part of the Marvel NOW! initiative and will be launched on 9 January 2013.
