A Remarkable, Mysteriously Pink Lake In Australia

Looking like a pool of strawberry milk from aerial view, Lake Hillier on Middle Island in Western Australia is a natural marvel that seems to have come right out of Alice’s wonderland.

The tiny lake—spanning only 600 meters in width—is rimmed with white salt and encircled by dark green forests, which only serves to accentuate its startling shade of cotton-candy pink.

To add to the fantasy of the lake, the reason for its unusual coloring is as yet unknown and still under investigation—while some scientist initially attributed its pinkness to the presence of algae, this hypothesis was later overturned.

Check out the lake on Google Maps over here.
