In China, A Luxury Hotel Constructed With Shipping Containers

Chinese architectural firm Tonghe Shanzhi Landscape Design has built a luxury hotel out of shipping containers.

Constructed out of 35 shipping containers, the “Xiang Xiang Pray House” contains 21 individual rooms—each housed in either a 20-foot or 40-foot container—in addition to a lobby, restaurant, event space and patio areas.

The five star hotel is an eco-friendly project that saved 60% of water and concrete during construction and produces 30% less waste than a similarly sized regular hotel—it is even painted in environmental water paint.

Normally used for as low-cost, temporary structures in architecture, it is refreshing to see the shipping container utilised for providing a luxury experience.

Would you pay luxury rates to stay in a hotel that is housed in shipping containers?
