Man Builds Himself A Pair Of Bionic Hands After Losing Them In Accident

Sun Jifa is a Chinese farmer who lost both his hands after an accident involving a homemade bomb exploded prematurely.

Because he could not afford the hospital’s prosthetic limbs, the 51-year-old from Guanmashan, Jilin province in northern China, decided to ‘take matters into his own hands’ by creating his own pair of bionic hands.

According to The Dailymail, Sun spent eight years creating prototypes using scrap metal before finally designing a pair of steel prosthetic hands that he can grip and hold thanks to a series of wires and pulleys inside the shell.

“I control them with movements from my elbows and I can work, love normally and feed myself just like anyone else,” explains the real life Chinese ‘Iron Man’.

However, Sun’s only complaint is that the steel is quite heavy and he does get tired after wearing them.

Sun also adds that they do get too hot or cold during the summer and winter.

Currently, Sun has plans to develop his design for other similarly handicapped or disabled people.

“I made this from scrap metal for virtually nothing,” he said, “there is no need to pay hospitals a fortune.”
