Facebook has introduced a feature for its Android app that lets non-Facebook users create a ‘Messenger’ account.
Non-users can now enjoy the service by simply logging onto the app with a name and a phone number—without the need of a Facebook account.
Previously, only Facebook users had access to this service.
According to Mashable, this new feature will be available on the iOS soon—and it will roll out to Android users in India, Indonesia, Australia, Venezuela and South Africa first, before hitting other markets.
Mashable also added that the app would serve as an alternative to other SMS apps like GoogleVoice, Kik and Whatsapp.
