Self-portraits taken at arm-length with a hand-held camera are immensely popular among the social media generation and almost ubiquitous on the internet.
Cape Town-based advertising agency Lowe Cape Town has created a clever, tongue-in-cheek campaign for The Cape Times newspaper—featuring iconic photographs re-imagined as these “cam-whoring” self-portraits.
Consisting of four images that have been manipulated by Photoshop to create the self-portrait effect—including the historical snapshot of the V-J Day In Times Square kiss—the ads brilliantly convey the message that “you can’t get any closer to the news”.
