Furniture Made Of Shredded Magazines

To find a use for the huge amount of wastepaper produced in offices, Italian designer Jens Praet has collaborated with Elle Décor to create a range of furniture—aptly named “Shredded”—made out of shredded magazines.

Consisting of a table, a bench, a bookcase and a low table, the pieces are formed with the use of clear resin and molds—the paper and resin mix hardens to a wood-like solidity.

A great way to up-cycle wastepaper that is headed for the landfills, these paper furniture are surprisingly strong and sturdy—made from 3kg to 30kg of shredded Elle Décor magazines, some of them can support up to the weight of an adult.

Proving the versatility of paper as a raw material, perhaps this concept can be applied to created more elaborate furniture designs?
