Bizarre Vintage Illustrations Depict ‘Monstrosities of Evolution’





The human imagination knows no boundaries, and Ulisse Aldrovandi’s work is no exception.



These illustrations, which are from his book, the History of Monsters, showcase a vast array of weird creatures.



Aldrovandi is also considered the founder of modern Natural History, with this book being deemed his most complete description of nature.



As he was a professor of natural sciences at the University of Bologna, a his knowledge of the sciences has also influenced his work, making it a creative mash-up between both the arts and sciences.
