Built by Minneapolis-based custom LEGO company Brickmania, this 24-foot long diorama depicts the landing of the US Marines at the Battle of Peleliu.
Currently situated at the Evansville Museum Transportation Center (EMTRAC) in Indiana, the diorama is meant to be an educational piece.
EMTRAC marketing director Josh Gilmore said that LEGO bricks are good tools to use for illustrating history. “We can get kids to love history through their favorite toy”, he said.
The diorama, which comprises of over half a million bricks and costs about $33,000, features a 10-foot long recreation of the USS LST-325 ship and an extensive beach battle scene.
Dan Siskind, a designer at Brickmania, said that because the diorama is located in a museum, it was built to be as accurate as possible.
