New York-based artist Emily Burns has chosen an unusual way to explore the concept of female beauty by creating a series of oil on canvas paintings of deer-headed pin-up girls.
Not only do these paintings bring into question the line between human and animal, they also lead the viewer to objectify the female subjects because of the lack of a human face or identity.
“My recent work investigates the inner complexities of women through intimate glimpses of parallel environments. I am interested in the vulnerability of beauty, and the eternalization of my subjects through the process of painting.”
