German-Latvian creative agency Flow Design has created a hookless coat hanger that uses magnets to hold onto metal rails.
The ‘Cliq’ is the size of a standard coat hanger but instead of a hook, it uses a powerful magnet to fasten itself to any metal surface. The magnetic force is strong enough to carry weights of up to two kilograms. To use, simply hold the hanger close to the metallic surface and it will stick to it with a click. The hanger can also be slid along the metal railing by swiping it.
The hookless design saves six centimeters of vertical space and the coat hanger’s magnetic properties mean that two hangers naturally repel each other, creating an even gap between clothes.
According to the designers, the magnets will degrade over time but only very slightly, citing the loss in effectiveness as “less than 1% over a period of ten years.”
The ‘Cliq’ comes in natural birch, black and white, and can be customized with engraving, labels or pad printing. It is available to purchase here.
What do you think of this magnetic coat hanger? Would you use it?
