Wanting to recruit the best talent in the Middle East but wishing to avoid costly headhunter fees, Dubai ad agency FP7 took to hiding smartphones in hollowed-out books and mailing them to potential hires.

The books used were fake, die-cut ad industry volumes and were personalized to suit each creative. As for the phones, they were free gifts from clients and each one had the number of FP7’s creative director programmed into it.

According to the agency, they were able to add four members to their company – an art director, a design director, and an award-winning creative team. It also claimed to have saved over US$80,000 in recruitment fees.

‘The Poaching Phone’ showcased the agency’s fun and creative spirit while differentiating themselves from other agencies.

Find out how they executed their recruitment stunt in the video below. Wouldn’t you like to be headhunted with a specially customized book as well?
