Artist and illustrator Yumi Sakugawa’s latest work is an adorable and quirky comic-style book entitled ‘I Think I Am In Friend-Love With You’.
“What’s friend-love?" the artist explained, "It’s that super-awesome bond you share with someone who makes you happy every time you text each other, or meet up for an epic outing. It’s not love-love. You don’t want to swap saliva; you want to swap favorite books. But it’s just as intense and just as amazing.”
The book depicts the evolution of modern friendships, in which a lonely but sweet protagonist says things that hover in between platonic and romantic like, “I want our hello/goodbye hugs to be a few beats longer than a casual friend hug”, “But never so long that it becomes a lover’s embrace”.
