Artist Community Collaborates On Single Art Piece With 50,000 Illustrations

To celebrate surpassing the 10 millionth user mark last month, Japanese online artist community Pixiv embarked on a massive collaborative project.

The Pixiv team wanted to visualize what their entire artist community looked like, so they invited users to submit their illustrations to create a single giant illustration.

Each submission came in the shape of an ema (絵馬), a wooden plaque that can often be found at Shinto shrines.

Representing their hopes and dreams, the resulting artwork is symbolic of a giant ema, created from each individual illustration.
