For surf-obsessed Australia, artist Annette Thas has created a giant Barbie wave installation for this year’s ‘Sculpture by the Sea’ event held at Cottesloe beach in Perth.

The intriguing installation was made by tying thousands of blonde-haired Barbie dolls to an aluminum frame in the shape of a giant wave that beachgoers could sit under to get some respite from the sun.

Explaining the concept behind her installation, the artist said, "The Barbies are used to convey messages. That's why I decided to use blonde Barbie dolls. The sculpture is about genetic modification and the tyranny of the ideal image of beauty".
