Google has unveiled ‘Android Wear’, an interface for smartwatches and other wearable devices.
The operating system will utilize Google Now, a virtual assistant software that works using voice command. It will focus on notifications and prioritize information according to the user’s context to minimize interaction for a more seamless experience. For example, you can view weather reports, travel and meeting times on your way to work in the morning.
It can also track “real-time speed, distance and time information”, making it ideal for fitness fanatics.
Google is working with Android phonemakers like HTC, LG, Samsung, Motorola and Asus on hardware, as well as fashion labels like Fossil. Motorola has already introduced its Moto 360 smartwatch featuring ‘Android Wear’, which you can see in the videos below.
More details are expected to be announced at Google I/O from 25 to 26 June. With ‘Android Wear’, the internet giant’s move into wearable technology could influence how people view watches as smart devices instead of merely time-keeping instruments.
