Steve Areen has built a lovely orange dome-shaped house in Thailand that costs about US$8,000.
As the laws are lax in the country, Areen was able to build this 500-square-foot home in six weeks.
This idea was conceived when Areen was visiting his friend, Hajjar Gibran—the latter let Areen build a home on his mango plantation, giving him advice on the project and letting his son-in-law, Tao, help out.
The home looks cozy enough, and is accompanied with a pond and a gazebo. The decorative stonework and landscaping make this tiny abode seem like a tropical paradise, and was made using materials nearby.
However, the house is not completely off the grid—it is still powered with electricity and heated water.
Although this is Areen’s first house, he is looking to build one in Portland, Oregon, using more sustainable materials like earthen bricks.
What do you think—would you like to build a house of your own?
