Rotterdam-based photographer Claire Droppert has an intriguing series titled ‘Sand Creatures’ featuring sand clouds captured in mid-air.
In her photos, heavy piles of inanimate grains come alive to form weightless sculptures that have a graceful, balletic beauty. If you look closely, you can discern animal-like shapes in the bursts of sand, such as a bull, a hare and a fish.
It is the first instalment of her ‘Gravity’ project that “seeks to capture earth’s different elements and let them stand out in their natural surroundings using moments of zero gravity.”
