Striking Photos Celebrate The Many Kinds Of Gender And Sexual Identities

Based in San Francisco, photographer Sarah Deragon has created “The Identity Project”—a photo series that celebrates the diversity of gender and sexual identities.

The photographer embarked on this project as black and white portraits inspired her when she was coming out. She also searched for LGBT people in her images to help her figure out who she was.

“With this project, I want folks to look at my images and be happy, proud, inspired, and even turned on. This photo project is my love letter to the LGBTQ community,” she stated.

Deragon also related that she changed her identity many times as she was coming out, and learnt that the labels we use to define ourselves change over time—“This project reminds us that we’re always growing and changing. Finding words that resonate with who we are or what we’re attracted to is powerful,” she said.

She hopes to turn this project into a book and an art show but for now, Deragon is focusing on photographing as many people as she can—those who wish to participate can fill up the form on her website.
