The Real-Life House That Probably Inspired Pixar’s Popular Movie ‘Up’

If you have always assumed that Pixar’s popular animated film Up is a work of pure fiction, this may make you think again.

Website Inhabitat recently featured this fascinating little house in Seattle that look very much alike to the one featured in the movie—after its original owner, 84-year-old Edith Macefield refused to sell it for a million dollars, developers were forced to build a mall around it.

What is interesting is how Macefield’s circumstance was uncannily similar to that of Carl Fredricksen, the main character in Up, who was also pressured to moved away from his home.

While we cannot be sure that the movie is indeed based on Edith’s story, it still heart-warming to know that one old lady was able to stand in the way of powerful real estate developers.
