‘Project: Breastfeeding’ is a photo project started by photographer Hector Cruz, with the goals of “de-stigmatizing public breastfeeding, educating men, and empowering women”.
The project features images of men pretending to breastfeed their babies, with the tagline “If I could, I would”, which is targeted in support of breastfeeding mothers.
The project was started after his daughter, Sophia, was born. Wanting to help his wife, who had difficulty nursing Sophia, he went online to learn more, but saw many negative reactions and found a lack of public support for breastfeeding moms. Hoping to raise awareness and support for this loving, nurturing act, Project Breastfeeding was born.
“As fathers we think our role is to figure out what the best car seat is, to figure out what the best carrier or stroller is, have the right car and make sure we put up the crib and have everything in order, but our roles go so much deeper than that,” Cruz said in a video.
Currently, Cruz is hoping to raise enough money to run a billboard campaign nationally. He is also looking for dads to help out in the project.
