IKEA's New Collection Features Renowned Swedish Artist's Whimsical Designs

For its latest collection titled Önskedröm (“Pipe Dream” in English), IKEA is drawing from the work of renowned Swedish illustrator Olle Eksell.

Known for his playful sketches and use of bright colors, Eksell believed that good design could change the world. His positive, almost rebellious spirit is what IKEA Design Manager, Marcus Engman, hopes to emulate with this new collection. The IKEA collection is also accompanied by the biographical book titled “Olle Eksell – of course!”

Revolving around three motifs—namely, the adventures of ‘Edward and the horse’, Eksell's delightful and uncanny portraits of birds for ‘Happy birds, sad birds, birds as hippies’ and his colorful rendition of matches in ‘The paper ignites the color’.
