For the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge model, UK telecommunications provider O2 commissioned urban artist Pure Evil and fine artist Paul Karslake to reimagine six classic artworks with a fun, modern 21st century twist.

Asked to show what they thought could be happening outside of the original canvas, they portrayed Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh as a hipster and surrealist artist RenĂ© Magritte’s The Son of Man enjoying an idyllic seaside holiday.

Referencing how Samsung’s latest smartphone touts a curved edge, they were created for O2’s ‘The Edge of the Canvas’ exhibition, which ran from 9 to 23 April at the Pure Evil Gallery in London.

Watch a video of Pure Evil painting his version of American Gothic below, and check out the reimagined artworks after.
