During Chinese New Year in Hong Kong, as many as 1,600 trees are cut down and 170,000 liters of petrol are burned to make wrapping paper. This not only contributes to pollution, but it also results in a lot of wastage after the presents are opened.
In a bid to make an “environmentally friendly difference” this year, shopping mall East Point City—together with advertising agency Saatchi Saatchi Hong Kong—have designed a recycling machine that turns old newspaper in wrapping paper.
Called the ‘Instant Newspaper Recycler’, the machine uses silkscreen techniques to print a unique design on top of the unwanted newspaper—turning it into recycled wrapping paper.
