Brooklyn-based photographer Joey L’s latest series entitled ‘Holy Men’ features striking portraits of Hindu ‘Sadhus’; or holy men residing in Varanasi, a city in India.
The portraits are an exploration into the ascetic lives of the Aghori, a type of Sadhu that engage in postmortem rituals.
“The Aghori have a profound connection with the dead. Death is not a fearsome concept, but a passing from the world of illusion,” the photographer explains.
