South Korean artist Seung Hoon Park’s photos of European buildings and landmarks are not your typical tourist shots–instead of simply pressing the shutter button on his camera, he creates intriguing mosaic images using woven film strips.
For his on-going series ‘Textus’, Park traveled to Rome, Milan, Venice, and Prague, capturing their architecture on 8mm or 16mm film. He then laid the film strips in rows to form a single collage and exposed them in a 8x10” camera before stitching the images together to create the final picture.
Resembling woven fabrics, the fragmented nature of the prints invites viewers to look at them carefully. With their unusual textile-like appearance and brilliant disjointed details, they offer a different perspective of looking at our surroundings.
