Student-artist Samantha Humphrey’s latest project entitled ‘It’s A Matter Of Trust’ aims to raise awareness of violence against women with battered Barbie dolls.
Each doll has been painted to look like she has been the victim of abuse, with bruises, bloodied lips and black eyes–a far cry from the golden-girl image and picture-perfect life we have come to associate with Barbie.
The message she wants to convey is, “We shouldn’t be taught that life is perfect”, and that there are harsh realities we need to be aware of.
