Unlike conventional dating ads, this one portrays an elderly woman asking her granddaughter if she has tied the knot—the young lady finally gives in since she cannot afford to be “picky”.
In Chinese culture, children are supposed to respect the elderly and be devoted to their parents’ wishes—because of this, many Chinese nationals are pressured to tie the knot and have children to please their elders as well.
This spot has received a lot of backlash—many netizens have branded it as “irresponsible” and “retarded”, while Rocket News 24 has called the ad a “guilt-trip”.
