Based in New Jersey, Joe Iurato has scattered his miniature stenciled figures on the streets of New York City.
Similar in style to his larger pieces, Iurato places these smaller figures in appropriate and less noticeable places in the city. Each work of art represents different stages of the artist’s life—for example, a tiny skateboarding figure represents how the sport has changed him as a person.
“I try to see the possibilities for a larger picture within a smaller space: a puddle can become a lake, a small crack in a cement wall can become a magnificent climb, a curb or window ledge can fall away into a desperate void,” he stated.
Passers-by can also do whatever they see fit with his artwork—it appears that some have taken them home as souvenirs as many of these works are no longer at their locations.
