Airbnb has unveiled its office in Dublin, Ireland, with a reception area inspired by traditional Irish pubs.
Local architecture firm Heneghan Peng came up with a horseshoe-shaped bar made of dark wood that features bottles placed around the top, candelabras and amusingly, a standing suit of armor that appears to be having a drink.
A presentation area nearby has tables and chairs modeled after those found in pubs, while the floor and ceiling have decorative elements reminiscent of pubs from different eras. A pair of quirky green and beige phone booths provide privacy for phone calls.
The office also has a 12-meter-long bench with contours that dip and rise. It was originally designed by Heneghan Peng for Ireland’s Venice Biennale pavilion in 2012.
Meeting pods made from oriented strand board and featuring interiors inspired by the apartment listings on Airbnb dot the office. The rooms are glazed on opposite walls and carry the names of the cities on one side, and some of them have seating built into the outer corners for employees to sit and chat.
Larger pods have hinges in the center so that they can be easily split to create separate meeting rooms. Elsewhere, a series of giant wooden steps with scattered cushions forms a cozy and informal meeting area or workspace.
