Dutch design studio Mieke Meijer has designed an innovative work space that is part desk, part storage space and part shelving unit.
Called ‘Object Élevé’, this one-of-a-kind unit was commissioned by designer Just Haasnoot for his home in the Netherlands.
Hand-crafted from oak and black steel, Object Élevé is divided into two sections—the top section consists of shelves that double as a staircase to the upper floor, while the bottom features pieces of oak integrated into shelving and storage units. They also serve as spaces for displaying ornaments and can also be used as a desk.
The staircase was built based on the ‘samba system’, allowing the steps to rise at a steep angle, while remaining comfortable to walk up and down from.
According to the studio, it said: “The construction, built from both standing and suspended parts, largely consists of open frames allowing the design's transparent character to be maintained.”
