Ad Agency Uses PANTONE Swatches To Convey The 'Emotions' In Words

The Danish advertising agency TN Reklame realized that finding the right words to convey a message is as important as finding the right color in design.

Inspired by the similarities between language and design, Thomas Norgaard came up with The Dantone Guide, which uses PANTONE’s colors to illustrate the different subtleties that lay within similar words.

Norgaard’s guides associate a range of colors to show the “emotions” words could convey—for example, “apologize” takes on a soft turquoise hue, while “deny” comes in a more solid shade of dark green.

The PANTONE scale and color are also matched to different topics—reds and pinks are used to explain emotions, green tackles environmental issues and blue words are all about business and money-related matters.
