Helsinki-based designer and illustrator Janine Rewell recently collaborated with shoe designer Minna Parikka on a series of striking ads that feature gorgeous body paintings on female forms.
Inspired by Parikka’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection, Rewell created several vibrantly colored geometric patterns, which were then painted onto the bodies of models by body paint and make-up artists Saara Sarvas & Riina Laine.
The natural contours of the human body made painting straight lines on it a challenge—the artists have to be very conscious of the right angles and be mindful of details such as how shadows would fall.
The four visually arresting ads that came out of the collaboration are a delight to peruse—the painted models are photographed against matching backgrounds, seemingly blending into them.
