Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has a new campaign aimed at young audiences that creatively makes use of emoji to highlight animal cruelty.

Scheduled to launch this week, the campaign features print and video ads that tell stories of animal cruelty entirely through emoji. The graphics depict the killings of cute rabbits, cows and monkeys with guns, hammers and needles to show how their fur and hide are turned into consumer goods.

Created by Los Angeles agency BPG, the ads come with an option for people to donate money to PETA via an emoji-based texting feature provided by Waterfall Mobile.

The campaign will run in magazines, PETA’s website and blog, as well as its various social media platforms.
