This Blog Shows You The Best And Worst Spots To Cry In New York City

Think of New York City and all sorts of guides on where to find the best pizza, cocktails and steakhouses come to mind. Now you can add a new Tumblr blog called NYC Crying Guide to the list.

The brainchild of comedian Kerry O’Brien, it does exactly what it says: to show you the best and worst places to cry in New York City.

She came up with the unusual premise after realizing she was choosing her lunch spots based on how appropriate they were for a cry after a break-up.

O’Brien states the blog is meant to be a tongue-in-cheek project for entertainment purposes, and true to word, each review comes with hilarious, tongue-bitingly funny quips.

Take for example a brisk, matter-of-fact description for the Bank of America branch on 592 5th Avenue that reads, “A very average, basic, no-frills, in and out place to cry.” Other witticisms include the 7 train (“no one will EVER look at you!!”) and outside the IFC Center (“everyone walking by assumes I just watched a breathtaking independent film that rocked my core and I am crying because life will never, ever be the same again”).

As humorous as it is, the idea strikes one as a rather interestingly quaint one. In a city where the lines between what is private and what is public are often blurred, it reads as an admirable attempt to reclaim a bit of personal space amidst the chaos and human crush.

If you’re in New York City and would like to know where to sob in peace, head over to NYC Crying Guide to view more locations. Who knows, they might come in handy the next time you feel a deluge of tears coming on while outside.
